INBO is internationally recognised for its work in supporting the implementation of Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) in national and transboundary river basins.

INBO has consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council, observer status with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and partner status with UN-Water.

In these various capacities, INBO regularly contributes to the various UN processes, in particular by organising (or taking part in) thematic sessions and UN conferences on water, climate (COP Climate), biodiversity and sustainable development.
