The International Network of Basin Organisations (INBO) has released a detailed report on its major inputs to the 10th World Water Forum that took place in Bali, from 18 to 24 May.

This edition of the Forum, under the theme “Water for Shared Prosperity”, brought together more than 20,000 participants and delegations from 160 countries, including heads of state, government officials, experts and civil society organisations.

INBO played a key role in shaping the discussions and outcomes of the Forum, actively participating in over 30 sessions on key water-related issues with the International Office for Water, and organising the high-level political segment on basin management. Its participation focused on three key areas:

  • Water Information Systems: INBO stressed the importance of strengthening knowledge bases and data sharing capacities. These are essential for informed decision-making, which is vital for achieving sustainable development and adapting to climate change.
  • Training in the water sector: Recognising the need for well-trained human resources, INBO emphasised the critical role of education and training in improving the quality of water management worldwide.
  • Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM): INBO focused on transitioning from theoretical frameworks to practical applications of IWRM at the basin level, advocating for an operational approach that can be implemented effectively.

INBO also discussed issues related to Governance, Planning, Financing, Ecological Security, Water Information Systems and Transboundary cooperation during the Basin Segment Day, a high-level political segment of the forum, which aims to accelerate progress toward the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6) through basin-specific actions.

Additionally, the report outlines several actions, initiatives, and projects launched during the forum, demonstrating INBO’s commitment to advancing sustainable water management practices worldwide.

This comprehensive report serves not only as a record of INBO’s substantial contributions to the 10th World Water Forum but also as a resource for ongoing and future efforts in addressing global water challenges.
