The 26th International River Symposium (IRS) will be back to Brisbane, aligning with the Brisbane Festival from 8-10 September 2025. Under the theme “River Revolution: Accelerating Solutions for Climate Resilience” the Network of Basin Organizations (RIOB) and its members will actively participate in this event, engaging in key discussions, side events, and collaborative initiatives aimed at strengthening river basin management and climate resilience.
This global event will bring together river managers, basin representatives, policymakers, scientists, consultants, students, NGOs, Indigenous and community organizations, and industry representatives from around the world.
The IRS provides a unique opportunity to exchange knowledge, fast-track innovative solutions, and collaborate on practical actions to improve the sustainable management and resilience of rivers worldwide. As the climate crisis intensifies, the 2025 symposium will catalyze transformative action by fostering innovative practices, sustainable funding, and cross-sector partnerships aimed at strengthening ecosystems, communities, and economies.
The symposium features a dynamic program, including a one-day masterclass, a two-day conference, and the prestigious Thiess International River Prize award ceremony. These events are designed to facilitate collaborations, celebrate the environmental, economic, and social value of rivers, and examine best practices in river and watershed management. The 26th IRS promises to be a critical forum for advancing river health and resilience in a rapidly changing world.
